Back in Business

 Tuesday January 10 2012

From the top photo on July 19 (that photo is Day 9)

to this (5 months and 23 days later):

and this:

Sunny is back to work after her horrific barbed wire accident. Miraculously, she never did take a lame step, and she rather kept herself in shape while she was penned up, spending her days pacing and sometimes sprinting along her fence, until she was turned out beginning of October.

She's a little uh… fat now, and despite her being sound, I'm not doing much with her. Just a little work at a time. But she'll be ready for an endurance ride this summer. John will be back on his favorite mare.

Jose is supervising the progress.

  1. Oh what Good NEWS! Looking back at those pictures, I still shudder. Even a bit "plumb" she's a fine looking mare & can't wait to see a completion photo of her this year!

  2. Great news indeed. Nothing like seeing Sunny healed and healthy. I'd rather see a chubby horse in the winter than a skinny one. She'll keep herself warm and work off the extra as the season goes on.

  3. Congratulations on such a succesful recovery. If you can find it, a dilute solution of 1% silver nitrate will shrink the excess scar tissue and promote new skin growth. I have used it a number of times with near miraculous results. Even at this stage of healing you would likely get good results.

  4. Wow great healing result and in a very short space of time. Sunny must have amazing powers of recuperation. Good luck to her in 2012!

  5. It's wonderful how bodies can heal themselves. Nice to know that she is sound.

  7. Dang barbed wire. MollyTheDog ripped her belly open (skiing with me) Christmas Eve, 20+ stitches. Back to "all normal activity" this week.
