The best thing about the 12 straight hours of rain we had, besides the great quenching of this dry, thirsty winter desert?
The canyon became a giant dirt bathtub for the horses. Our soil has a lot of clay in it, so it sticks GOOD to horses. It really grinds in the tangles and helps snarl the tumbleweeds in the manes and tails. The gray ones especially went to town.

I really had trouble telling them apart.
It makes for very happy horses.
Isn't it weird how grey horses always like to make themselves filthy? I reckon it must be an innate desire to camouflage themselves, as a "survival thing" that's evolved over the generations.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least they aren't pink! That's the normal color for grey horses in Oklahoma after a red dirt bath. Its especially fun to pat a winter woolly grey horse and get little puffs of red dust.
ReplyDeletemud ponies everywhere you look! :)
ReplyDeletemuddy pony = happy pony!
ReplyDeleteWhoever is going to groom them = not so happy!
I measured 5 inches of water in a bucket that was empty Wednesday night. This means we got half our average yearly percipitation with this storm. It was so wet I even had to put a blanket on Agnes. I'm sure I'll have bays by tomorrow!
