The Eagle Has Landed!

Friday February 10 2012

Both of them in fact - the Bates Creek golden eagle pair are prepping their nest for some good old fashioned egg laying again this year!

They've been hanging around the area the last month, keeping an eye on their old nest from last year, and checking out new real estate further up the creek (a nest occupied last year by great horned owls, and the year before that by red-tailed hawks); but the last couple of weeks one or two have been seen at their tried and true old nest.

Today they were both on the nest (there are 2 eagles in the top photo), and presumably it's the female that was sitting on the edge, looking down in her cubbyhole that she'll soon be sitting in.

  1. How cool is that! Seems early for them to start prepping for Spring, but I guess they are just checking out the real estate market--neighbors, food shopping, schools, etc. *G*

So happy to see pictures of the returning residents. They are magnificent birds.

  2. Awesome! Too cool to know that they have returned! There are too many birds, raptors and all, who get scared away by what/whom ever!

I would love to be down there to have a look at their on-going lives!

  3. That's one of the things I miss the most when we moved.Sitting on the deck and watching all the Eagles in the trees and fishing was awesome.

  4. Woo hoo! We've got bald eagles flying around on our side of the lake this year, so I am hoping they re-claim the eagle nest that's just across the street from my house. I look forward to seeing lots of photos of your goldens!
