The Party's Over
Thursday March 10 2011
It's been a lazy winter. Flab is overtly abundant. One particular Horse-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named (starts with a "D" and has the letters u-d-l-e-y in the name) has love handles and he didn't particularly appreciate me squeezing them.
It's time to get down to business. Regina reminded us the Tough Sucker endurance ride is only 5 weeks away. It's practically spring in Owyhee.
No more time off - the workouts and re-conditioning has begun. Hills are crying out to be climbed. Sand washes are clamoring to be worked up.
No more indulging at gorging hay 24 hours a day (well for Horse-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named for sure, anyway).
We have a lot of horses to get in shape. Ourselves too!

Uh, maybe for the horse-who-can-not-be-named its just a bad camera angle? Those things add 100 lbs (for horses) ya know. He could just be big-boned too. (Is it possible to see fat jiggle in a still picture?! I think I did! LOL! At least he was warm this winter!)
ReplyDeleteI think you have your work cut out for you!
:)
Inspiring Merri. I look a bit like the horse that shall not be named.
ReplyDeleteUhm...the horse-who-can-not-be-named looks, in that picture, even fatter than my Boys...and that's fat! I mean, I'm glad he came through the winter without losing any weight, but...well, suffice it say I think he needs to lose some weight.
ReplyDeleteHowever, with your terrain and riding room out there, I have a feeling he will be in condition in no time.
"Uh Oh!", says Dudley! "Merri had too good a time in Arizona etc."
ReplyDeleteDudley is looking rather Spudly.
ReplyDeleteI guess the 24 hour buffet will be closed for the-horse-who-shall-not-be-named. Poor guy. My boys put some weight on this winter too. Tell your boy he won't be alone in his dieting. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the belly on that lunge line photo. LOL. My guy got some love handles when he got the summer off last year.
ReplyDeleteOMG! He's SO FAT!
ReplyDeletethe image on the longe line is screaming exercise and diet :-)
But it's ok, we all have a tendance to chubb up in the winter!
Nobody hurting for groceries in Owyhee!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband insists he's put on a lot of muscle when the scale climbs up, up, up. Dudley must be verrrry strong right now.
ReplyDeleteso 5 weeks until the first ride, huh? How are you going to plan those 5 weeks to get him in condition? I am just wondering, since I am facing a similar situation.... and we still have a heck of a lot of snow ...
ReplyDeleteFunny about the love handles. One of our guys tends to get them, too, but he works off the fat pretty quickly.
