Whoo?
Wednesday April 20 2011
You won't see these birds just anywhere, especially with their numbers steadily declining in the Pacific Northwest. The spotted owl is in trouble, for a number of reasons. I went out with a bander who caught and banded this female spotted owl we hadn't expected to find. More on this later...

Oh that's so cool! But how do you catch them? I can hardly catch a chicken, much less a wild bird of prey!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to read how you caught the owl. We really enjoyed the company of the Barred Owl we rehabilitated last year.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a teaser...catching an owl! Surely there is a good story there.
ReplyDeleteWe have spotted owls here. Sometimes the bird people come and feed them at night to check on them. They are doing well. They feed on our prairies but live in the nearby state park. Beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteI love owls, especially after I caught that great horned owl last fall. This one's a beauty. Can't wait for the story.
