Happy Owyhee Fourth of July!

July 4 2014

Those national Fourth of July parades have nothing on us Up-The-Crick People in Owyhee.

Hoards of crowds gather at the Teeter ranch up the crick, lining the parade route for the show put on by Linda and her menagerie. She's been doing this for years, with a rotating cast of characters.

The dogs and goats, horse and mule and mini-mule are as patriotic as the next American and they look forward to this parade every year (well… except for Edna the donkey who, for whatever donkey reason, did not want to attend).

Enjoy the video!

Owyhee Munchkin

Tuesday November 22 2011

Occasionally, neighbor Linda goes jogging, and takes her Owyhee Menagerie with her.

Occasionally, the mini-mule mare gets into somebody's random pasture (by crawling through or under the fences) and stirs up the locals and either can't get out, or pretends she can't get out because by running around, back and forth along the fences, the locals stay stirred up and she stays the center of attention. She always manages to find her way out of said paddocks when she really wants to.

The Menagerie jogged by here the other day, and mini-mule mare got stuck, or so it seemed, in one of our paddocks and stirred up a lot of interest and excitement in our herd! (She was in heat, so that upped the ante.)

She got the herd running,

then she slipped right on under the fence and kept running, back

and forth,

and back again,

until I finally opened the gate, and she slipped out, and headed for home.

Owyhee Menagerie I

Wednesday June 29 2011

Some people take their dog for a walk every day. How boring.

Neighbor Linda takes her whole Menagerie for a walk (and she only needs one halter!): Mama the miniature horse, Holler her baby mini-mule, Bee the Border collie, Goat Dog the dog, and Edna the donkey.

Edna loves Goat Dog and she follows him everywhere. They roam Linda's property... and sometimes beyond... and Edna won't come back unless Goat Dog does.

Sometimes the gang comes over for a visit, stays a while, startles the neighbors ("what the hell is that!?"),

and then they head home.

It may seem odd to some people, but Linda and her Menagerie fit right in with us folks on the crick.
