  1. Great shots, Merri! I had 2 geldings that used to play like this; They never hurt each other, but wow, do they play rough sometimes. Whew, Horse Play!

  2. Your Boys play rough!! Maybe that's what's happening to Tucker's blankets in my paddocks.

Gotta love it, though. A friend of mine used to say men/boys like to hit each other and hard physical contact is just normal. Watching the horses go at it, I'd have to agree.

Mac did get the better of Jose that time. Wonder when "payback" will come? *G*

Great pictures, again. I am envious of your skill at being there to capture the action.

  6. Wow, do they ever sort out the dominance thing, or is this just constant horseplay?

  7. thanks for the comments, everybody. I am lucky to have such a playful herd here, especially with a camera in hand. they've learned to ignore me while i'm shooting, and often they'll chase each other and zoom past me close enough to touch, but they'll leave me alone (so far!).

this is all horse play, but boy it does get rough sometimes! they usually get their dominance thing sorted out pretty quickly. with these 2, Jose is the boss of Mac, but they are buddies. Jose will engage his superiors in play and he can be quite insistent about it! The dominance thing most often comes into 'play' - pardon the pun - when it comes to food, or mares in heat. (yes, the geldings can fall in love for a few days too!)

  8. Great set of photos. Neat how they run together in between bouts of horseplay.
